In the largest gathering of its type in the United States, a fleet of tall ships, with cannons blasting, and historic schooners will sail into Dana Point Harbor on Saturday about noon.
The Tall Ships Festival will continue through Sunday with battle reenactments, tours of the ships, an art show, storytellers and more. Festival hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The brig Pilgrim, the Californian and most of the other historic vessels will be open for public tours at the Orange County Marine Institute from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
To get there, take Interstate 5 to the Dana Point/Pacific Coast Highway exit and go the road north to the Dana Point Harbor entrance. A free shuttle bus will operate from a free parking lot at Pacific Coast Highway and Selva Road, a mile north of the harbor entrance.
