Matadors Lose but Ma Goes Distance

Nancy Ma, playing her first full match of the season, had 13 kills and seven digs, but Cal State Northridge lost a nonconference women’s volleyball match to Santa Clara, 15-12, 15-4, 15-5, on Thursday night in its home opener.
Ma, who is recovering from knee surgery, played in the Matadors’ first four matches, but only in one game each match.
Laura Wolemberghe had 34 assists and 18 digs for the Matadors (3-2).
Jenny Scritchfield, Laura Echolds and Amy Kohl each had 10 kills for the Broncos (5-1).
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Agoura 10, Camarillo 8--Sophomores Brooke Borisoff and Alyson Tyson swept their sets in singles to help the Chargers win in a nonleague opener at Agoura.
Borisoff, defending Marmonte League champion, went 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Tyson was a 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 victor playing in the No. 2 slot.
Annie Doud and Jenny Underwood, Camarillo’s No. 1 doubles team, swept, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Crescenta Valley 18, Agoura 14--Justin Payne and junior Carlos Pelayo each scored six goals to help the Falcons win a nonleague opener at Agoura.
Alex Dmitrevsky had seven saves for the Falcons.
Hans Larsen had seven goals and Mike Campbell added six for Agoura.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Alemany d. Moorpark, 15-10, 15-8, 15-13--Sasha Hernandez had 10 kills and Gina Zambetti had 20 assists to help the Indians win an opener at Moorpark.
