Keith Resigns as Coach at Irvine

Steve Keith announced his resignation as the Irvine High boys’ basketball coach Thursday.
“It’s just time,” Keith said. “I’d been the head coach at Irvine the last 12 years, and was the head coach at Glendale 10 years before that. I’m going to be 50 this year and I need a break from coaching.
“I will continue to teach at Irvine and I still may be involved in the program in some capacity. But the high school athletic environment today can be all-consuming. I want to get going in a different direction.”
Keith had a career record of 192-134 at Irvine. Last season the Vaqueros finished 18-9, third in the Sea View League and lost in the first round of the Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs.
