Gitana in a Burbank Kind of Groove
Beautiful downtown Burbank just got fancier. Two weeks ago, restaurateur and club owner Andres Leon launched Gitana (“gypsy” en Espanol), and the 22,000-square-foot venue is nothing to sneeze at. Leon enticed three former Conga Room principals--master chef Alfonso Ramirez, General Manager Danny Vega and marketing and sales manager Consuelo Flores--to be a part of Gitana, and all eagerly signed up. The food’s a mix of South American, French, Italian and Mediterranean cuisines, and the club (which begins showcasing live music at the end of the month) has a 4,000-square-foot dance floor, three satellite dishes and about 35 monitors, all set up for major TV events (I know where I’ll head for mano a mano boxing coverage). . . . Speaking of hand-to-hand combat, the mosh pit at Stone Temple Pilots’ recent unannounced gig at Dragonfly was insane--stage diving, crowd surfing and a whole lot of sweaty fans lapping up every note from STP’s fine young catalog.
