Educating Immigrants

I was disturbed to read of the colonialist attitudes of the Anaheim Union High School District and board president Harald Martin (Aug. 1). While they defend their proposal to bill the home countries of illegal immigrant students as their attempt to provide them a better education, the racist us-versus-them mentality is blatantly obvious.
How ironic that Martin claims to support the assimilation of various groups into American society, but then seeks to disassociate immigrants from our society by denying responsibility for their education.
