5 More Grand Jury Alternates Named

Ventura County’s Superior Court judges have nominated five people to serve as alternate grand jurors for the 1999-2000 term.
The alternates are George Askew, Theodore Collins, Claudene Nelson, Robert Paul and Anna Turturro. The judges attempted to balance representation by race, gender, age and family income, court officials said.
The five alternates join a pool of backup jurors eligible to serve if a current grand juror resigns. Thirty citizens serve on the panel, which investigates public complaints and other matters of community concern.
The nomination of additional members was necessary because of resignations since the grand jury was seated in June, court officials said.
