Six backyard partygoers in unincorporated Athens were wounded late Saturday when a young man with an assault rifle climbed atop a carport and opened fire.
All six were hit in the legs or feet, sheriff’s spokesmen said.
The victims, whose names were not released, were reported in stable or good condition Sunday at local hospitals.
The assailant escaped.
Detectives are trying to determine a motive for the attack, which occurred at 11:30 p.m.
No one recognized the gunman. The victims were not gang members and the attack was not believed to be gang-related, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
