HUNTINGTON BEACH

A car crash victim’s identity was a mystery to hospital officials until her family and friends came forward last week, UC Irvine Medical Center spokeswoman Kim Pine said.

Resident Barbara Kerttu, 64, suffered head injuries after a car hit her as she walked along the 6000 block of Warner Avenue on July 27, Pine said. She carried no identification and the nature of her injuries made her extremely confused and disoriented, Pine said. But after media reports, Kerttu’s family and friends identified her, Pine said.

Kerttu remained in serious condition Wednesday morning, said Lauren Bechen, also a hospital spokeswoman.
