Platinum Reports Net Loss

Platinum Software Corp., based in Irvine, reported a second-quarter net loss of $6.8 million, or 24 cents a share, which included a $6-million charge for restructuring and a $6.4-million charge related to its merger with DataWorks Corp. For the same quarter a year ago, the company earned $2 million, or 7 cents a share. Revenue for the quarter ended Dec. 31 increased 54% to $33.4 million from $21.7 million.
The company also announced that it has adopted the calendar year as its new fiscal year. The company’s first quarter for fiscal year 1999 will end March 31.
