Year-Round College
Count me as strongly disagreeing with Chancellor Charles Reed’s call for year-round college operations (letter, Feb. 21). Contrary to what he may believe, most faculty do not spend their summers on hiatus; my academic activities for last summer included, for instance, a seven-week research trip to Mexico City and Berkeley. Should the change to year-round classes be implemented, CSU faculty will not have time to engage in research and writing.
Chancellor Reed’s proposal will prevent faculty from remaining current in their fields. As a result, the CSU will become a mere statewide high school system.
