D-Day Sites Already Booked for June

COLLEVILLE-SUR-MER, France — Don’t try to get reservations in Bayeux in Normandy, France, for next June, the 55th anniversary of the D-Day landings. There’s no room at the inn. The combination of the anniversary and Steven Spielberg’s hit film “Saving Private Ryan” has made Normandy a hot destination, and many aren’t waiting for June 6.
“We’re seeing a lot more Americans since the film opened,” says Louis Verdier, who owns the Hotel de la Marine at Arromanches. As for June, he says, “We’ve been booked since October.”
At the American cemetery here, visitors often ask where Capt. Miller is buried, according to assistant superintendent Michael Green. Some are sorry to hear that the film character is fictional.
