PACOIMA — Honduran and Nicaraguan immigrants are invited to free workshops at the San Juan Macias Orientation Immigrant Center today and Saturday.
The workshops will provide information on recently announced special status for the two groups, said center spokesman Felipe Kofman.
In wake of the destruction caused by Hurricane Mitch in the two countries, the U.S. government announced that Hondurans and Nicaraguans living in the United States since Dec. 30 will be eligible to stay and work legally, regardless of their immigration status. The special status may last as long as 18 months, and people may register for it until July 5.
The workshops will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday at the immigrant center at 13672 Van Nuys Blvd.
For more information, call the center at (818) 896-1156.
