The Planning Commission unanimously approved plans Monday to replace an outdated recreation center with a multimillion-dollar downtown community center in Lions Park.
The new $3-million facility replaces a decades-old building that is not earthquake-safe. The new 18,000-square-foot center will include a gymnasium, gymnastics room, locker rooms, showers, office space, child care center and kitchen. There will also be a new swimming pool, accessible to the disabled.
