Business Improvement District Is Created

The Los Angeles City Council unanimously voted Wednesday to create a business improvement district in Chatsworth.
In an 11-0 vote, the council approved a motion aimed at bolstering the Devonshire commercial strip bordered by Jovita and Vassar avenues.
The business improvement district is meant to make an area more attractive to customers by enhancing the ability of merchants to improve storefronts and marketing, beautify landscapes and improve security.
Businesses in the Chatsworth commercial area will pay for the improvements through assessments ranging from $120 to $1,200 per business. The city projects that roughly $80,000 in revenue will be raised.
About 25% of the 294 businesses in the area presented the city with petitions calling for the project.
