Town Meeting Set on 310 Overlay
State Assemblywoman Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica) will host a discussion Thursday of the 310 area code overlay.
Under the overlay plan, a new area code--424--would serve the same geographic area as 310 on the Westside of Los Angeles and the South Bay. But because of vocal objections from customers and lawmakers, the July 17 introduction of the overlay code was postponed to allow regulators at the California Public Utilities Commission to review alternatives.
The town hall meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, East Wing, 1855 Main St., Santa Monica. After a status report on the area code plan, the meeting will be opened up for questions from the public.
PUC commissioner Henry Duque and several PUC staff members will attend, along with Kuehl and Santa Monica Mayor Pam O’Connor.
