Bullish on Musicals

In his article “Films Were Alive With Sound of Musicals” (June 27), Robert W. Welkos stated that “Hollywood has all but abandoned the Broadway musical as a source of filmed entertainment” and that studios are no longer producing “splashy,” “prestige” musicals. Wow! He should come spend a day at Disney.
“The Wonderful World of Disney” has two musicals, “Annie” and “Geppetto,” currently shooting for this coming television season on ABC. We have assembled an impressive group of Emmy, Oscar and Tony winners both in front of and behind the camera in addition to hundreds of talented local singers, dancers and musicians.
With over 50 million viewers tuning in to see “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” we believe audiences haven’t lost their love for high-quality musical entertainment. We’re excited to be in production on two and can’t wait to do more.
