GOP Moderates Seek Smaller Tax Cut

Moderate Republicans who say the $864-billion tax cut proposed in the House is far too large are working on an alternative of about $500 billion that they consider more realistic. Rep. Michael Castle (R-Del.) said the bill is “a work in progress” and would not offer details, but he said it could be ready by today--when GOP leaders hope to reveal a slimmed-down version of the main bill that would cost about $792 billion over 10 years.
