Irvine Valley College trustees have named Armando Ruiz, 56, vice president for student services. Ruiz succeeds Pauline Merry, who was fired more than a year ago over what trustees said were differences with college President Raghu Mathur over a personnel matter. Ruiz came to the college as a counselor last year. He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Coast Community College District, which has colleges in Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa.
