An Amtrak passenger train partially derailed as it approached the train station in Rensselaer, N.Y., injuring 16 people on board, officials said. Three cars slipped off the tracks when the Lakeshore Limited slammed into another train it was attempting to hook up with, local broadcasters reported. None of the 12 passengers and four crew members taken to a hospital appeared to be seriously injured, officials said. A witness said the train, which was coming in from Chicago and bound for Boston, was going too fast when it collided with the second train. Amtrak spokesman Rick Remington wouldn’t speculate on the cause of the crash.
