The city recently received $100,000 from the Orange County Transportation Authority to help construct a pedestrian tunnel on Ridge Route Drive. Residents have been requesting a pedestrian tunnel since before Lake Forest’s incorporation, Councilwoman Kathryn McCullough said. Students from Serrano Intermediate School and Aliso Elementary School currently walk through a traffic tunnel to get to school. City Engineer Bob Woodings said the City Council could vote on a construction contract as early as July 6.
