The Redevelopment Agency has retained consultants Kosmont & Associates to help find a new owner for downtown’s historic Fox Theater. The Los Angeles-based consultant firm will recruit developers, prepare marketing materials and complete a financial analysis of the rehabilitation of the Harbor Boulevard theater, which has been boarded up since 1987. The city has six months to find a buyer but has no obligation to purchase the property if there is no interest. The selling price is $1.8 million. There are no requirements that the Fox be restored as a theater, but at a June 10 meeting held to discuss its fate, theater preservationists Peyton Hall and Barbara Smith concluded that the Fox is a good candidate for restoration.
