High School in Compton Burned; Arson Suspected

COMPTON — A suspected arson fire Friday evening at Centennial High School in Compton damaged four classrooms and caused an estimated $150,000 in damage.
Firefighters from nearby cities joined Compton firefighters in battling the blaze, which started about 7 p.m. and spread quickly through one of the main buildings on the Central Avenue campus.
One classroom was destroyed, but officials did not expect the damage to significantly disrupt summer school classes, said Sgt. James Bradford of the Compton Unified School District police.
Officials suspect that the fire was intentionally set because other nearby classrooms had been burglarized, Bradford said.
No arrests had been made Friday. The investigation was continuing.
