Would-Be Subway Bomber Gets Life

A Palestinian who plotted to bomb a busy New York City subway train in order to “burn the Jews” and free imprisoned Arab militants was sentenced to life in prison. Gazi Ibrahim Abu Mezer, 25, was convicted last year in the 1997 suicide-bomb plot. Reading from a rambling statement in federal court in Brooklyn, Mezer called himself a victim of Israeli and U.S. oppression. The FBI said Mezer picked the train because it serves a predominantly Jewish neighborhood in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn.
