Glendale Loses on Home Run in Seventh

Keith Anderson hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to give host Palomar College a 6-4 victory over Glendale in the first game of a best-of-three series in the Southern California Regional baseball playoffs.
Anderson’s homer followed a two-out Glendale error that put a runner on base.
The second game will be played at 11 a.m. today at Palomar, with a third game to follow, if necessary.
Palomar (31-7), the Pacific Coast Conference champion, got two home runs from Chad Stewart.
Glendale (23-22) roughed up Palomar starter Dave Ebright (7-3) for three runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh. Ebright, who went into the game with a 2.54 earned-run average, finished with a six-hitter and six strikeouts.
Anthony Fabrizio had two hits, including a home run, and Matt Hellman also had two hits for Glendale.
SOFTBALL
Cal State Northridge 9-3, Utah State 0-2--Tara Glaister threw a no-hitter in the first game and the host Matadors (28-22, 14-9 in conference play) scored three runs in the seventh inning of the second game to sweep a Big West Conference doubleheader.
Glaister struck out six, hit a batter and had another runner reach base on an error in the first game, which was called after six innings because of the eight-run rule.
Ui Bal homered, finishing with three hits and three runs batted in.
In the second game, Glaister struck out nine.
