Amritraj, Smith Help Crespi Post Victory Over St. Bonaventure

Stephen Amritraj won three sets at No. 1 singles and Mike Smith won two of three at No. 2 to spark Crespi High to a 10-8 victory over St. Bonaventure in a Southern Section Division V first-round playoff match Tuesday at Camino Real Park in Ventura.
Smith claimed a 7-6 (7-4) victory over No. 3 John Vigorita in the last round of round-robin competition.
With the set tied, 4-4, Vigorita led, 40-0, before Smith rallied to win the game.
No. 1 doubles partners Carlos Gil and Ray Purwadihardja split up to give Crespi (11-8) more depth.
Gil teamed with junior Hutson Olsen at No. 1 doubles and won two of three sets. Purwadihardja and Chris McNicoll won one set.
Both teams lost to freshmen Sean Callaghan and Todd Kinsling, the No. 1 team for St. Bonaventure (12-3), which had an 11-match winning streak ended.
Callaghan and Kinsling (30-0) beat Gil and Olsen, 6-4, and defeated Purwadihardja and McNicoll, 6-2.
In other first-round matches:
Hoover 10, Arroyo Grande 8--Jack Timourian swept three sets at No. 1 singles for the Tornadoes (14-3), who posted their ninth consecutive victory in a Division I match at Hoover.
Diamond Bar 15, Glendale 3--The doubles teams of Evan Kim and Tony Topsakalyan, John Sim and Andy Kim, and Gilbert Ruiz and Alen Vartan each won one set to give the Dynamiters (12-9) their only victories in a Division I match at Diamond Bar.
Rio Mesa 18, Righetti 0--No. 1 player Quinn Borchard did not lose a game while sweeping three sets for the Spartans (17-1) in a Division II victory at Rio Mesa.
Chris Worthington and Khai Nguyen sparked a doubles sweep by the Spartans (17-1), whose only loss was to Westlake in a tie-breaker.
Hart 17, Montebello 1--Jesse Ferlianto (49-5) swept three singles sets for the Indians (16-2) in a Division II match at Hart.
Burbank 16, Lancaster 2--No. 1 player Eugene Shin and the No. 1 doubles team of Clark Barlow and Fabian Kwak each won all three of their sets for the Bulldogs (17-4) in a Division II match at Burbank.
Burbank is without top player Tigran Martiroysian, who is playing in Europe.
Thousand Oaks 16, Walnut 2--Phil Sheng, Andrew Lieu and Willie Mullin each won three sets to give the Lancers (17-3) a singles sweep in a Division II match at Walnut.
Westlake 18, Bellflower 0--No. 1 player Eric Jenson and No. 2 Alex Yeftali did not lose a game for the second-seeded Warriors (19-1) in a Division III match at North Ranch Country Club.
Agoura 15, El Monte 3--Tim Mullane lost only one game at No. 1 singles to help the Chargers (13-4) win a Division III match at El Monte.
The No. 3 doubles team of Greg McNamee and Brett Weaver also swept for the Chargers, who won all nine doubles sets.
Oak Park 10, Santa Maria St. Joseph, 8--Joey Edelberg, three-time Tri-Valley League champion, swept three sets for the Eagles (8-9) in a Division V match at Oak Park.
