La Verne Damien 32, El Toro 21--Mike Munoz rushed for 180 yards and scored three touchdowns, including two in the first half, as Damien rolled to a 21-point first-half advantage and cruised to the first-round victory.
Munoz scored on a 58-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and added a five-yard scoring run with 3:33 left in the opening quarter, giving the Spartans (10-1) a quick two-touchdown edge. He added a five-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter after El Toro had sliced the deficit to 25-13 with 3:13 remaining.
Munoz finished with 231 all-purpose yards, including 51 on two receptions.
Damien quarterback Ryan Lawrence, who was eight of 12 for 140 yards, threw two first-half touchdowns that gave the Sierra League runners-up a 25-0 lead in the third quarter.
The first was a 22-yarder to A.J. Herrera with 3:50 remaining in the half. The second was a 23-yarder to Brent Labarrere with 1:37 left in the third quarter.
El Toro’s Pat Parry and quarterback Evan Whitaker hooked up twice for touchdowns in the second half. The first was a 14-yard strike as the third quarter ended; the second was a 12-yarder with 6:16 left in the game. Whitaker finished 17 for 37 for 219 yards.
Ryan Switzer completed the scoring for El Toro, finding the end zone on a one-yard run with 1:31left. He gained 74 yards rushing in 16 carries.
