Re “Federal Report Cites Violations at 83 County Nursing Homes,” Nov. 22: Gov. Gray Davis was dead wrong to veto AB 1160, which, if signed into law, would have done much to alleviate the disgraceful condition of far too many California nursing homes. Your article reports new statistics from a federal report citing even more unsanitary conditions in 83 Los Angeles County nursing homes alone, resulting in bedsores, improper use of restraints, malnutrition, dehydration--any number of evils.
It is unknown why the governor chose the path he did, but he can correct this major mistake in judgment by putting nursing home reform at the top of his list. The terrible situation in far too many nursing homes in our state no longer can be tolerated.

I read that there has been another report of the shocking conditions in nursing homes in our community. How can Gov. Davis read things like this and still veto the nursing home reform bill, which was overwhelmingly passed by both the Assembly and the Senate? Where is his heart?
