Getty Villa

I find it difficult to understand the opposition to the Getty Villa expansion plan (Sept. 29). Museums are located in residential areas all over the world. Consider the Huntington Library in San Marino or the Cloisters in New York City. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art conducts jazz concerts and there are numerous residents on the north side of the property.
The Getty will be giving low-key concerts of classical music and plays by ancient Greek and Roman authors, not amplified rock festivals. There will be no light and sound shows that are popular attractions in many castles located in residential areas in Europe.
Lastly, I applaud the recent decision by the board of zoning appeals for approving adequate parking for visitors to the Getty Villa. We are now another step closer to being able to visit this magnificent gift to our city.
