Kinetic Sculpture Race to Start Today

Ventura will host its second annual Kinetic Sculpture Race today and Sunday. The race is an unusual hodgepodge of people-powered machines designed to travel on streets, sand and water.

Festivities begin downtown at 9 a.m. and the race kicks off at 11 a.m. Sunday’s schedule begins at 10 a.m. at the Ventura Harbor public boat launch.

Racers travel from all over to enter their artistic vehicles, many of which are constructed from recycled bike, motorcycle and lawn mower parts.

Last year’s event attracted 21 vehicles, with a total of 103 racers and crew members.
