I support former President Carter’s efforts to urge President Clinton to pardon Patty Hearst (Oct. 6). Hearst committed her crime 25 years ago as a member of the Symbionese Liberation Army. But for the past 20 years she has “led an exemplary life as a wife and mother.”
Another member of the Symbionese Liberation Army from 25 years ago is Sara Jane Olson (formerly named Kathleen Ann Soliah), who is now being prosecuted by L.A. County Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti. Following the logic set out by former President Carter, Olson should not be prosecuted because for the past 20 years she also has “led an exemplary life as a wife and mother.”
