High school officials soon will be able to respond to emergencies at the touch of a button, thanks to a new program that will equip campuses in Placentia and Yorba Linda with cellular phones.
The Placentia-Yorba Linda school board voted unanimously this week to accept the donation of wireless phones from AirTouch Cellular as part of a statewide program called Safeguard Our Schools.
The phones will be distributed to Valencia, El Dorado and Esperanza high schools, and possibly to El Camino High School, said David Verdugo, director of secondary education for the district.
Verdugo is not sure how many phones the district will receive but said the schools should receive them late October or early November.
