Lopez, Diaz Pace Glendale Victory

Jorge Lopez of Glendale College placed third and teammate Eduardo Diaz finished fourth to help the Vaqueros win the men’s division of the Cuesta Invitational cross-country meet at Fairbanks Park in San Luis Obispo on Friday.
Lopez clocked 21:16.0 over the four-mile course that will host the state championships on Nov. 20. Diaz timed 21:21.1 as defending state champion Glendale totaled 77 points.
San Diego Mesa was second with 93 points, followed by Bakersfield with 137, Riverside with 165 and Orange Coast with 175.
Orange Coast and San Diego Mesa beat Glendale in the Bakersfield Invitational two weeks ago, but the Vaqueros had five runners ahead of Orange Coast’s No. 2 runner Friday.
Brian Spangenberg of Canyons, winner of the second Western State Conference meet of the season at Moorpark College last week, placed sixth in 21:24.9.
Orange Coast edged Mt. San Antonio, 74-78, for the women’s title. Ventura tied Pasadena for sixth with 233 points and Moorpark was eighth with 304.
Yadi Ramirez of Ventura placed sixth with a time of 19:27.1 over the 5,000-meter course and Jeanene Gerry of Moorpark was seventh in 19:32.2.
Kim Lorimer of Glendale was the region’s top finisher in fourth in 19:10.9.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Crescenta Valley 16, La Serna 13--Carlos Pelayo scored nine goals and Robert Curreri added two goals and five assists as Crescenta Valley, the second-ranked team in the Southern Section Division III, beat sixth-ranked La Serna in a nonleague game at Crescenta Valley.
The victory was the 15th in a row for the Falcons (18-1) since a 10-5 loss to Harvard-Westlake in the semifinals of the Jim Toring tournament last month.
Pelayo, who has 105 goals, scored four times in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Burroughs 13, Bell Gardens 11--Jason Falitz scored five goals and the Indians (17-3, 1-0) won an Almont League game at Bell Gardens.
Falitz, Justin Frank and Eldar DeLeon scored consecutive goals to help Burroughs build a 13-10 lead with 2:28 left. Indians goalie Bart Bagdasryan had five fourth-quarter saves.
Royal 19, Newbury Park 3--Derek Anderson scored seven goals, Ramiro Saldain added five goals and Chris Andelin had three for Royal in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Calabasas 13, Camarillo 5--Erin Everly rallied from a 40-15, 5-2 deficit to defeat Camarillo’s Lauren Gaona, 7-5, in No. 1 singles in a nonleague match at Calabasas.
Oak Park 14, Moorpark 4--Alison Meisel and Erica Levy swept six singles sets for host Oak Park (8-4) in a nonleague match.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Arcadia def. Crescenta Valley, 15-8, 15-9, 15-12--The Falcons (6-5, 4-1) squandered big leads in the first two games and were swept by the Apaches (8-1, 5-0) in a Pacific League game at Arcadia.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Ventura 2, Hancock 0--Alicia Garcia and Missy Kavelage each scored in the first half for the Pirates (10-3-4, 6-0-2) in a Western State Conference Northern Division game at Ventura.
