Unworldly GOP

Re “Treaty: Bountiful Blame,” editorial, Oct. 17: You are wrong in laying any part of the blame for the rejection of the nuclear test ban treaty on the Democrats. The current crop of Republican senators are simply not worldly individuals. They have their heads in the sand. Many of them, like Jesse Helms and Trent Lott, flaunt their isolationism in order to solidify their right-wing support. They claim to be patriots but they’re really damaging the U.S. in the eyes of the world.
Worldliness is also a factor in the upcoming elections. Rudy Guiliani may be a good mayor but he isn’t worldly enough to be a good senator. George W. Bush may be a good governor but he isn’t worldly enough to be a good president.
