Since Jim Kunau took over at Orange Lutheran, the host team in this game has won, except for the 1995 Southern Section Division X title game, which the Lancers hosted at Orange Coast College and lost. This season Valley Christian, ranked fourth in Division XI, hosts the game. The Lancers are ranked third, but Valley Christian Coach Mike Wunderley says it’s hard to imagine another team in the division playing better than Orange Lutheran is right now. To win, Wunderley will have to shut down Jason Whieldon and Lutheran’s high-powered offense, something no one has been able to do so far.
