Assisted Suicide

Thank you for your Oct. 22 editorial exposing Rep. Henry Hyde’s bad anti-suicide bill. You showed some of the bill’s evils, but you didn’t mention that it is a slick rewrite of his bill that failed last year. More important, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to rule on an assisted suicide case last year, saying that this issue should be decided by the individual states. What has become of the GOP’s proverbial espousal of states’ rights?
