BRAVES’
JOHN SMOLTZ
(11-8, 3.19 ERA)
vs.
YANKEES’
ROGER CLEMENS
(14-10, 4.60 ERA)
* Update--This will be Clemens’ first World Series appearance since his controversial Game 6 start for Boston in 1986, when he either took himself out of the game or was pulled--it depends on whether you believe Clemens or then-Red Sox Manager John McNamara--in the seventh inning because of a blister with Boston leading in the game and leading the series, 3-2. The New York Mets came back to win on first baseman Bill Buckner’s infamous error, and the Mets went on to win Game 7 and the series.
