Brea Olinda in Big Rush for Victory

Brea Olinda rushed for a school-record 432 yards en route to a 42-15 victory over visiting Magnolia Friday night in an Orange League game. The Wildcats eclipsed the previous record of 378 yards established in 1977 against La Habra.
Kenny Washington led the ground attack with 161 yards and two second-quarter touchdowns in 28 carries. Ryan Fortner contributed 147 yards in 10 carries for the Wildcats.
Magnolia (1-7, 0-3 in league) scored first when Brian Poetschiag returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown with 12 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Jesse Romero added the extra point.
Brea Olinda (7-0-1, 2-0-1) tied the score on the ensuing drive when Washington scored from the nine and Cory Nicholson connected on his first of six PATs.
Nick Stagnaro made his first of two interceptions with 2:55 remaining in the half to set up the go-ahead touchdown. Washington scored from the four with 1:09 left.
The Wildcats increased their lead to 21-7 on a nine-yard run by Fortner.
Magnolia had an opportunity to cut into the lead when Alex Gonzalez recovered a fumble on the Brea nine. The Sentinels, however, lost a fumble on the next play and Dan Scott recovered the loose ball.
Brea added three touchdowns in the fourth quarter on scoring runs of eight, four and 17 yards by Jeff Silber.
Magnolia scored the final touchdown of the game with 26 seconds left on a one-yard run by quarterback Greg Maye.
Peter Sekona, playing in only his second complete game for Magnolia, carried 16 times for 51 yards.
