University Defeats Laguna Beach

Senior Jacque Newsome scored a touchdown and rushed for 108 yards in 18 carries to lead University to a 12-10 Pacific Coast League victory over Laguna Beach Friday night at Laguna Beach.
Laguna Beach (3-5, 0-3) was led by senior Pat Chesley, who rushed for 117 yards in 13 carries.
Newsome’s 30-yard touchdown run with five minutes 58 seconds left in the second quarter gave the Trojans (3-5, 1-1) a 12-7 lead.
But Laguna Beach cut the gap to 12-10 on a 21-yard field goal by Nick Rayson with 3:26 left in the second quarter. The was no scoring in the second half.
Laguna Beach took the lead when Travis Loidolt scored on a one-yard run with 5:45 left in the first quarter.
University cut the gap to 7-6 when Josten connected with Kevin Conlin on a six-yard touchdown pass with 23 seconds left in the first quarter.
Josten, the University quarterback, completed 10 of 21 passes for 96 yards.
