Laguna Hills Shuts Down Aliso Niguel

Laguna Hills had just enough offense to go with an outstanding defense in its 9-0 victory over Aliso Niguel in a Sea View League game Friday night at Aliso Niguel High.
The Hawks (5-3, 2-1 in league) scored their only touchdown after an interception by Chris Turner, which gave Laguna Hills the ball at the Aliso Niguel 29-yard line. Nine plays later, quarterback Brandon Champlin scored from one yard with 8:30 left in the half.
Laguna Hills scored on a safety with 4:35 remaining in the game, when Aliso Niguel (4-4, 0-2) snapped the ball out of the end zone on a punt attempt.
Laguna Hills Coach Bruce Ingalls was impressed with his team’s defensive effort.
“That’s as good a defensive plan as you’ll ever see,” he said. “Our defense played as well as they could and our offense did just enough for us to win the ball game.”
Laguna Hills limited the Wolverines to one first down and 49 yards of total offense.
Aliso Niguel passed midfield just one time. The Wolverines used two quarterbacks, Joel Smith and Bryce Latimer, but neither could move the offense. The two combined to complete three of 16 attempts for one yard with three interceptions.
The only bright spot for Aliso Niguel was on the defensive side. Defensive end Tim Hefty had four sacks for the Wolverines, who had eight for 28 yards in losses.
Laguna Hills running back Matt Chandler gained 109 yards in 26 carries.
