A massive explosion shattered a nine-story apartment building in Moscow early today, destroying scores of apartments and leaving at least 14 people dead and dozens more trapped in the rubble. At least 52 people were seriously injured and hospitalized, Ministry of Emergencies officials said. Another 63 people, who suffered minor injuries, were also pulled from the wreckage, rescue workers said. The Interfax news agency reported that about 50 people were unaccounted for and feared dead. First indications suggested that the blast was caused by a natural gas leak, but security officials said they could not rule out the possibility of a bomb attack.
