* Re “Underground Blasts for Earthquake Study Planned,” July 15.
Am I the only resident of the San Fernando Valley who is outraged by the plan to detonate buried charges in our parks this October? “They” tell us very little is known about the underground--yet they are certain the explosives won’t precipitate any earthquakes in our vulnerable area!
What is gained by understanding why some areas are more susceptible than others? Can they prevent them? Can they warn us? Come on now, find an alternative to setting off bombs deep down under our feet!
