Birmingham 17, Van Nuys 11--Luis Juarez ran two yards for a touchdown with less than two minutes remaining to give Birmingham (1-1) a comeback win at Van Nuys.
The winning drive covered 68 yards in six plays and was aided by 37 yards in penalties by Van Nuys, including two personal fouls.
Kevin McCleary scored on Birmingham’s first play from scrimmage with a 61-yard run. McCleary gained 93 yards in 11 carries.
Van Nuys (1-1) overcame a 10-0 halftime deficit on a 33-yard field goal by Johan Colocho in the third quarter and a 71-yard scoring run by Yesel Manrique followed by a two-point conversion pass from Max Parra to Jose Zapata with seven minutes to play.
Manrique and Parra are two of six players who transferred to Van Nuys from Birmingham during the summer. Manrique had 76 yards in seven carries and Parra rushed 15 times for 83 yards and completed three of nine passes for 52 yards.
