The City Council recently expressed its support for the second phase of a study to find out what is involved in sending water through pipelines from wells in central Orange County to coastal cities.
Garden Grove has a joint authority with four other cities in the West Orange County Water Board. The proposed West Orange County Wellfield Project would pump water from ground-water wells in the Cypress/Stanton area, then use West Orange County Water Board transmission lines for distribution. The intent of the project is to shift pumping away from the coastal area where agencies have experienced problems with water levels, seawater intrusion and colored water.
