RON DAYNE
Running Back, Wisconsin
OK, Dayne has had his problems in four seasons running against Michigan, but zero yards in the second half? A Cheesehead pulled out of the crowd at Camp Randall Stadium could have found some holes in the Michigan defense. Dayne now needs 1,105 yards in Wisconsin’s seven remaining games to beat Ricky Williams’ Division I-A rushing record. At the pace he was going in the second half Saturday, Archie Griffin might be the Big Ten’s all-time rusher again by season’s end.
Saturday: 22 carries, 88 yards, 1 TD
Season: 101 carries, 612 yards, 6 TDs
Next: at Ohio State, Saturday
PETER WARRICK
Wide receiver, Florida State
While Florida State alum Deion Sanders has been sitting out Dallas Cowboy dances because of a toe injury, Warrick continues to step out in style for the
No. 1 Seminoles. He had a Prime Time run against North Carolina, returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown. It’s a good bet that Warrick will be flooring the opposition when he reaches the Big Dance next year.
Saturday: 4 catches, 103 yards, 0 TDs
Season: 30 catches, 441 yards, 1 TD
Next: Duke, Saturday
DREW BREES
Quarterback, Purdue
Brees admitted it was just a fling, nothing more. What he was talking about was a fourth-quarter pass heaved out of his end zone that had the air time of a punt. Vinny Sutherland, considered the fastest player in the Big Ten, ran under the floater, snared it and turned on the after-burners to streak to a 99-yard touchdown that gave Purdue a little breathing room in a 31-23 victory over Northwestern.
Saturday: 32-50, 405 yards, 3 TDs
Season: 107-172, 1,315 yards, 8 TDs
Next: at Michigan, Saturday
