Pacific Rallies to Upset UC Irvine, 7-3

Fifth-ranked Pacific rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the first quarter, scoring seven unanswered goals to upset fourth-ranked UC Irvine, 7-3, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s water polo game Saturday at Pacific.
John Dorfi, Chris Kirchwehm and Tony Grosso scored goals for the visiting Anteaters (2-4). Pacific is 6-2.
In Big West Conference women’s cross-country:
Anteaters finish first--Freshman Courtney Baird finished the 5,000-meter course at UC Santa Barbara in 18:12 to take first place and help UC Irvine win the five-way meet with 37 points. UC Santa Barbara placed second with 38 points. Cal State Fullerton placed fifth with 105 points, thanks mainly to Heather Garritson’s second-place finish in 18:29.
In Big West Conference men’s cross country:
Titans take third--Bryce Lighthall ran the 6,000-meter course at UC Santa Barbara in 20:24 to place sixth and help CS Fullerton finish third with 73 points. UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo tied for first place with 34 points. Westmont placed fourth with 92 points and UC Irvine placed fifth with 127.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Hope International 6, Cal Tech 0--Louis McDermott scored two goals and Roger Pena made six saves to lead Hope International (2-5-1). Cal Tech falls to 0-4.
Vanguard 7, U.S. International 0--Diego Goni scored a career-high four goals and added two assists to propel Vanguard (4-2).
In nonconference women’s soccer:
UC Santa Cruz 3, Chapman 2--Ali Yarosevich scored all three goals for host UC Santa Cruz, including the game-winner in the 87th minute. Erin Cunniffe and Kristie Hoback each scored for Chapman.
Vanguard 2, The Masters College 0--Annie Jacobs and Alexis Newbold each scored a goal for host Vanguard (6-3). Goalie Robin Landauer made four saves in recording the shutout.
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
UC Santa Barbara 3, UC Irvine 0--Roberta Gehlke had seven kills and Brooke Rundle had 13 assists to lead UC Santa Barbara (11-1, 2-0) to a 15-1, 15-0, 15-2 victory. The Anteaters fall to 7-6, 0-2.
