William Gilmore; Longtime Resident

Longtime Ventura resident William Herbert “Gillie” Gilmore died Thursday following a lengthy illness. He was 83.
Gilmore was born Oct. 5, 1916, in Pleasant Hope, Mo. He moved with his family to Ventura in 1925, where he was employed as a foreman by OST Trucking for several decades. He retired at age 72.
Gilmore was a member of the Poinsettia Lodge No. 633, F&AM; for 56 years.
Gilmore is survived by two sons, Roy Gilmore and Tim Gilmore, both of Ventura; a daughter, Ellen Gilmore of Ventura; a brother, Willard Gilmore of Ventura; six grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy.
A funeral is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, with a private burial to follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
The family requests donations be made to Livingston Memorial Hospice in Ventura.
