IRVINE

Last-minute political shuffling and council infighting have laid the groundwork for a hotly contested Irvine election in November.

Eleven candidates will have to slug it out for three City Council seats, but that won’t concern the lone contender for the mayor’s job.

City Councilman Larry Agran will run unopposed for what will probably be his third nonconsecutive term as mayor. Outgoing Mayor Christina L. Shea is leaving the independently elected post she has held for four years because of term limits.

Councilman Mike Ward and Councilman Dave Christensen are the two incumbents seeking reelection, and Agran’s council seat will also be open.

Other candidates include: Anthony Dragun, Christopher J. Gonzales, Ken Hansen, Beth Krom, Alan A. Mannason, Roger A. Matlin, Chris Mears, Patrick A. Rodgers and Savas Roditis.
