* Pearl Jam plays Aug. 23-25 at Jones Beach Amphitheatre, Jones Beach, Wantagh. The Nickelodeon All That Music and More Festival is at the same venue Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. (516) 221-1000.
* A revival of the 1960s play “Gore Vidal’s The Best Man,” with Spalding Gray, Charles Durning and Elizabeth Ashley, opens Sept. 17, with previews starting Sept. 5, at the Virginia Theatre, 245 W. 52nd St. (212) 239-6200.
* Previews of “The Full Monty,” the musical by David Yazbek and Terrence McNally based on the film, begin Sept. 26 at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, 230 W. 42nd St.; the show is scheduled to open Oct. 26. (212) 239-6200.
* “Art and the Empire City: New York, 1825-1861,” a special exhibition of American art created between the completion of the Erie Canal and the start of the Civil War, runs Sept. 19 to Jan. 7 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 5th Ave. (212) 535-7710.
* “Dancer in the Dark,” the Lars von Trier film that won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, will open the New York Film Festival on Sept. 22. The festival runs through Oct. 8. Tickets go on sale in early September. (212) 875-5600.
