The City Council delayed voting on a resolution that would oppose Measure F, the Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative, designed mainly to stop a commercial airport at the closed El Toro Marine base.
Councilman Rich Freschi asked that the item be put on the Jan. 25 agenda to give it more visibility to the public after the holidays.
City staff has recommended that the initiative be opposed because it prohibits Orange County from building or expanding airports, hazardous-waste landfills or certain jails until hearings are conducted and two-thirds of the county’s voters approve the project.
