A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Chula Vista near San Diego on suspicion of attempted murder in the beating of a retired oil company executive in Ventura, police said Wednesday.
Jamie Daniel Cid of Ventura remained in San Diego County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail. He was expected to be returned to Ventura this week, police said.
Cid was arrested Tuesday after police received a tip that he was in the San Diego area, said Ventura Police Det. Pat Stevens.
Jack T. Jamar, 78, was severely beaten March 10 in his home near Ventura College. Police originally believed he had also been shot but were mistaken. Money was missing from his wallet, Stevens said.
Jamar remains in critical condition at Ventura County Medical Center.
The detective said Jamar met Cid earlier in the day on Ventura Avenue or Thompson Boulevard. Jamar has several rental properties off Ventura Avenue and often collects rent money in person.
